Which Calypso Control Do I Have?



Calypso Waterjet Control Versions

Calypso Waterjet Systems manufactured control systems for the waterjet systems it built from 1994, until it ceased operation in February 2009.  Over those years, the company maintained technological leadership through the release of successive generations of motion control platforms.  The following is a guide to the control versions and how to identify them.

NOTE:  THE MARK I AND MARK II SYSTEMS HAVE REACHED END OF LIFE.  THERE IS NO SUPPORT FOR MARK I MACHINES, AND VERY LIMITED SUPPORT FOR MARK II MACHINES.

 

Pre – Mark I Systems - 1992 thru 1993

  • Calypso produced a small number of custom systems prior to 1994. All of these systems have been upgraded or replaced.  These systems have reached end of life, and are not supported.

 

Mark I Stepper Motor Version - 1994 thru end of 1998  

  • MEI controller
  • Open Loop Stepper Driver by Pacific Scientific
  • 3 or 4 axis control
  • MEI controller sits in control computer ISA or PCI slot, with ribbon cable to main control board


Mark I Servo Motor Version - January 1998 thru mid 2002

  • MEI controller
  • Closed Loop Servo Driver by AMC
  • 4 axis control
  • MEI controller sits in control computer ISA or PCI slot, with ribbon cable to main control board

 

Mark II - July 2002 thru mid 2004

  • Galil Controller
  • Controller plugs into main control board, as a daughter board, and sits on the main board top edge.
  • Uses AMC drives and MCG motors
  • Two cables from the console to each motor (each motor as two external connectors)

 

Mark IID (also known as Mark III) - Mid 2004 thru Q4 2005

  • Galil controller
  • Controller plugs into main control board, as a daughter board, and sits on the main board top edge
  • Danaher servo drives (S200) and motors (AKM series)
  • Single cable from the console to each motor (motor has single external connector)

Mark IV
- Q4 2005 and later

  • PMDi MC4000-Calypso controller
  • Controller sits in computer in PCI slot of the console computer.Two ribbon cables plug into 2 connectors on the main control board, and 2 connectors on the controller (inside the PC).
  • Danaher servo drives (S200) and motors (AKM series).

 

Mark IVJ - Limited Shipments Q4 2008

  • PMDi LC228 controller
  • Controller sits in computer in PCI slot of the console computer.Ribbon cables plug into 2 connectors on the main control board, and a single SCSI connector on the controller.
  • Danaher servo drives (S200) and motors (AKM series).
